Uzbek President meets with UN Secretary General

On July 1st, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, who was on an official visit to Uzbekistan, at the "Kuksaroy" residence. This was announced by Shavkat Mirziyoyev's press service.
The intensive dynamics and unprecedentedly high level of cooperation were noted with deep satisfaction. A total of 140 joint programs and projects are being successfully implemented. Over the past few years alone, at the initiative of the Uzbek side, 10 special resolutions of the UN General Assembly have been adopted.
It is noteworthy that a representative of Uzbekistan has become a member of the UN Human Rights Committee for the first time. In Tashkent, a representative office of another UN specialized agency, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, has started its operations.
Major international events with a global agenda are being jointly conducted, particularly on issues of food security, tourism development, poverty reduction, climate change, and biodiversity protection. Next year, the 43rd General Conference of UNESCO will be held in Samarkand.
There was also an exchange of views on current international and regional issues. Our head of state expressed strong support for the Secretary-General's initiatives to ensure international security and stability, reform the UN and its main bodies, and hold the Summit of the Future in New York City later this year.
Issues of cooperation in the development of transport connectivity, ensuring food, energy, and information security in the region were discussed.
The situation in Afghanistan was also addressed, emphasizing the need to expand humanitarian aid to the Afghan people and develop a consolidated strategy of the world community regarding this country.
As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached on the joint development of a Framework Program for Cooperation with the UN on the Sustainable Development Goals of Uzbekistan for 2026–2030.
