Uzbekistan is planning to install solar panels on at least 50% of residential and business roofs within two years. Additionally, about 3,000 small hydropower plants are scheduled to be built within the same period.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting to discuss the draft State Program for the Year of “Environmental Protection and Green Economy.” The Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, shared details in an interview with the “Uzbekistan 24” TV channel about the directives given by the president during the meeting.
“During today’s videoconference meeting chaired by our president, specific tasks for the 2025 State Program were outlined. These include increasing the share of green energy, implementing it across all sectors and at the household level, and providing maximum support for its adoption. Special emphasis was placed on connecting excess energy produced by households to the grid and purchasing it. Clear instructions were given to implement these initiatives with a targeted approach at the community (mahalla) level,” said the minister.
In addition to 3.5 GW of new generation capacities, an additional 1 GW of energy capacity will be developed. The program also includes building around 3,000 small hydropower plants and equipping at least 50% of residential and business roofs with solar panels within two years.
Furthermore, the minister emphasized the importance of introducing a program to save electricity, natural gas, and other heating resources. This includes improving the energy efficiency of buildings and promoting the use of resource-saving technologies, as reported by Gazeta.uz .
