Uzbekistan’s Consulate General in Seattle Officially Opens

The official opening ceremony of the Consulate General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the State of Washington was held in Seattle on September 4. More than 200 representatives of government and local authorities, business, academic, cultural and diplomatic circles, as well as Central Asian diaspora organizations, attended the event.
Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs delivered remarks on behalf of the US side. Representatives of leading global companies, including Microsoft, Amazon, Boeing, Meta, Google and Oracle, also attended the ceremony.
The event began with a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the start of the Consulate General’s activities. The national flag of Uzbekistan was then ceremonially raised over the building. The national anthem was performed live by renowned singer Jenisbek Piyazov and the “Xalqlar Do‘stligi” musical ensemble.
The ceremony highlighted that the opening of the Consulate General represents Uzbekistan’s permanent diplomatic presence on the US West Coast and a new stage in the strategic partnership between the two countries. Guests were also briefed on Uzbekistan’s large-scale reforms, including economic liberalization, private-sector support, digitalization, and the development of education and innovation, as well as efforts to create an open and predictable environment for foreign investors.
Washington Governor Bob Ferguson sent a special video message, noting that the new mission is Uzbekistan’s first consular office not only in Washington State but across the entire US West Coast. He said the Consulate General would create new opportunities for cooperation in trade and investment, technology, innovation, education, scientific research, culture and tourism.
Steve Hobbs also expressed the state administration’s readiness for systematic cooperation, including establishing direct business contacts, organizing reciprocal trade and business missions, and promoting joint projects.
The cultural programme featured Uzbek national cuisine, including plov. An “Uzbekistan Culture Corner” presented materials on the country’s history, cultural heritage, arts, traditions and tourism opportunities.
The new Consulate General will provide consular services to Uzbek citizens residing in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana, protect their rights and interests, strengthen ties with diaspora organizations, and support the development of trade and economic, investment, technological, educational, cultural and tourism cooperation.
