Uzbekistan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary with residence in New York, Ulugbek Lapasov, presented his credentials to Cuban President Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez yesterday.

Miguel Bermúdez stated that Cuba attaches great importance to its relations with Uzbekistan, based on principles of friendship, mutual respect, and consideration of interests.

The Cuban government expressed a strong interest in enhancing political dialogue and expanding multifaceted cooperation with Tashkent.

The Cuban President noted the significant resources and untapped potential for deepening bilateral partnerships in trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian spheres, as well as in healthcare and tourism.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Miguel Bermúdez conveyed his respect and best wishes to the President of Uzbekistan.

During his visit to Havana, Ulugbek Lapasov laid flowers at the monument to Cuba’s national hero, José Martí, and held meetings and negotiations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Parliament, Ministry of Health, and the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry group BioCubaPharma.

Diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Cuba were established on March 13, 2006. Ulugbek Lapasov is the first Uzbek ambassador to Cuba in 18 years.

It should be noted that he was appointed Uzbekistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York on August 3, 2023.
