Zelensky Comments on Ukrainian Strikes in Kursk Region for the First Time
World
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has, for the first time, addressed the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Russia’s Kursk region. During a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s staff, Zelensky heard a report from the Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, on the "operation" in the region.
Zelensky emphasized that these operations are a matter of security for Ukraine. He also stressed the need for Ukrainian diplomats to work actively with international partners to obtain necessary permissions for the use of long-range weapons.
In contrast, Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed that Ukraine’s strikes on the Kursk region are an attempt to improve its negotiating position in future talks. He accused Ukraine of deliberately targeting civilians and creating threats to Russia’s security.
Since August 6, the Kursk region has been under heavy attacks from Ukrainian forces, leading to the introduction of a state of emergency and counter-terrorism operations. Additional troops have been deployed to the region to repel the Ukrainian offensive.
