The next presidential elections in Ukraine, scheduled for spring 2024, did not take place due to the imposition of martial law. According to the Ukrainian Constitution, elections cannot be held during martial law.

Zelensky has also met with potential political competitors, including former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and current Ambassador to the UK Valeriy Zaluzhny, civic activist and charitable foundation head Serhiy Prytula, as well as former activist Serhiy Sternenko.

Experts suggest that these active contacts with potential rivals indicate that the president is preparing to strengthen his position ahead of a possible future election campaign.
