Accident at Yuksak Substation Leaves 55,000 Consumers in Capital Region Without Power

A technical fault in the high-voltage distribution networks of the capital region led to a cascading shutdown of generating capacities and the temporary blackout of tens of thousands of residential and industrial facilities. Following a major accident at the 110 kV "Yuksak" substation, which occurred on the evening of June 28 at 20:45, 55,000 consumers were left without power. According to the Ministry of Energy, the root cause of the incident was a network malfunction that triggered the emergency shutdown of two gas turbine units with a combined capacity of 60 MW at the Tashkent Thermal Power Plant. The widespread blackout hit the Yakkasaray, Chilanzar, Uchtepa, and Mirabad districts of the capital, as well as the Zangiata district of the Tashkent region, temporarily disrupting several small industrial enterprises.
The magnitude of the incident was monitored by the specialized online service Sveta.net, whose interactive map visualized a dense concentration of hundreds of complaints localized in the central and southwestern corridors of the city. The elimination of the consequences of this technological disruption was carried out in a phased manner throughout the night. The first group of consumers in the Yakkasaray, Chilanzar, and Uchtepa districts was reconnected to the grid just an hour after the initial breakdown. By 0:25, power supply was restored to the Mirabad and Zangiata districts. The full restoration of electricity supply to all categories of consumers was registered on June 29 at 3:56—exactly 7 hours and 11 minutes after the initial failure, after which the ministry issued an official apology to citizens for the inconvenience caused.
