CIS countries to meet on employment in Ashgabat

A meeting of the Advisory Council on Labour, Employment and Social Protection of the CIS member states will be held in Ashgabat in the second half of this year, Turkmen TV channel Altyn Asyr reports. The decision to hold the event was made at a government meeting.

Turkmenistan, due to its neutral status and associated membership in the Commonwealth, actively participates in the work of this Council.

According to information on the website of the CIS Executive Committee, the Council is engaged in the formation of a common labour market, development of its infrastructure and assistance in the implementation of social policy objectives of the states. In recent years, activities have been carried out to develop social services, pension provision, labour protection and rationing, as well as the labour market and employment.

Last year, the Council discussed the social and labour situation in the CIS countries, as well as measures taken in this area and issues related to the population census. In 2005, Ashgabat officially decided to participate in the CIS structure as an associate member, based on its status of permanent neutrality.
