Individuals attempting to illegally import 717 deer antlers were identified at the Tashkent customs post

The Customs Service reported the detection of illegal deer antler smuggling through the “Gishtkoprik” border customs post in Tashkent region.
During an inspection of a passenger vehicle, 600 deer antlers were found in the cargo compartment. These were not declared in the customs documentation or mentioned during oral questioning. Additionally, during a manual inspection of a pedestrian’s luggage, another 117 deer antlers were discovered.
According to an expert examination by the Zoology Institute of the Academy of Sciences, the antlers belong to deer species found in Eurasian countries and listed in Uzbekistan’s Red Book of protected species.
An initial investigation into the incident is currently underway.
