Priority tasks for developing the artificial intelligence ecosystem have been identified

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on the results achieved and future priorities for developing the artificial intelligence ecosystem in our country.
As a result of the work carried out in this area in recent years, Uzbekistan has moved up 25 positions to 62nd place in the international AI readiness index. The goal is to become one of the world's top 50 countries by 2030.
Furthermore, plans are in place to increase the volume of AI-based software products and services to $1.5 billion, expand infrastructure, and implement over 200 new projects.
Emphasizing that artificial intelligence technologies are developing rapidly, the head of state noted the need to continuously analyze global and regional trends, quickly master cutting-edge developments, and develop new initiatives.
The presentation primarily focused on the development of modern computing infrastructure.
Last month, a supercomputer based on NVIDIA technology was commissioned at the Digital Government data center. It ranked 321st in the world in terms of performance. In just one month, the cluster's load reached 90 percent, demonstrating the high demand for computing power in our country.
To date, a modern computing infrastructure worth $24 million has been commissioned. It has been proposed to allocate an additional $70 million for the expansion of the existing computing cluster. Funding sources, delivery deadlines for the necessary equipment, and projects being implemented jointly with foreign investors to create data centers in Karakalpakstan were reported.
It was noted that the effectiveness of AI-based solutions directly depends on the quality of the database. In this regard, tasks have been set to inventory the data available in ministries and departments, ensure its completeness, reliability, and interoperability, and create high-quality datasets by industry.
The need to increase the number of AI projects in the economic and social spheres to more than 100 this year was emphasized. Solutions being developed for healthcare, energy, transportation, customs administration, legal services, public safety, ecology, and geology were presented.
The importance of establishing systematic collaboration with IT Park residents, startups, and more than 20 artificial intelligence laboratories was noted. This year, the number of residents working in this field is expected to reach 300, with the volume of services they provide amounting to 2 trillion soums and exports reaching $160 million.
Particular attention was paid to personnel training. To date, more than 1.5 million users have received specialized certificates in artificial intelligence. Additionally, 900 executives, over 3,000 government officials, 1,000 bank employees, and 200 advisors have completed specialized training courses.
Over the next two years, the goal has been set to fully implement the "Five Million AI Leaders" project, as well as to develop modern teaching and methodological materials for schoolchildren, students, teachers, and the general public.
Industry hackathons and competitions were held in the cities of Nukus, Samarkand, Termez, Bukhara, Fergana, Andijan, Gulistan, and Jizzakh. The "Best Startup in Artificial Intelligence" competition was launched. Instructions have been given to organize similar hackathons in all regions.
The activities of advisors to regional, district, and city khokims on artificial intelligence issues were also discussed. Out of 500 candidates, 222 advisors were selected. The need for the widespread recruitment of young professionals educated abroad and fluent in modern technologies, as well as for their performance evaluation based on specific performance and effectiveness indicators, was emphasized.
The goal was to launch a separate digital platform designed to monitor and support the activities of advisors, as well as the projects and initiatives they implement, was also set. The presentation also discussed prospects for developing international cooperation in AI. As is known, Uzbekistan has become a member of WAICO – the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization.
It was emphasized that through participation in this organization, it is essential to advance new initiatives for the introduction of advanced technologies, large language models, and digital transformation solutions in our country, the implementation of joint projects with foreign technology companies and scientific institutions, and the training of highly qualified personnel.
