The President of Uzbekistan returned from Khiva to Urgench via a new road
Uzbekistan
Following an open dialogue with entrepreneurs in Khiva, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev toured the new toll road between Urgench and Khiva.
Our country places particular emphasis on developing modern road infrastructure and improving the speed and safety of transportation. The legal framework for establishing toll roads is also enshrined in the new version of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On Roads," adopted on August 5 of this year. Furthermore, the availability of an alternative toll-free road for drivers is a mandatory requirement.
The new road, built between Urgench Airport and the city of Khiva, is designed to ensure safe, fast, and comfortable travel for residents and tourists.
The project includes the construction of 35 kilometers of road, one underground tunnel, eight overpasses, 15 bridges, and 106 culverts.
While the current road from Urgench to Khiva takes 45-50 minutes, the new four-lane highway will reduce travel time to 15-17 minutes.
The road has a daily capacity of over 30,000 vehicles. Service facilities and facilities meeting international standards are planned along the highway.
Traffic flow and toll management will be implemented using digital solutions based on artificial intelligence. Automatic electronic toll collection will be available for cars, trucks, and buses without stopping.
The upper layers of the road surface use a special modified bitumen mixture resistant to hot climates. The total thickness of the road surface is 87 centimeters.
The new highway will further speed up and improve the convenience of travel between Urgench and Khiva, and will elevate the region's transport infrastructure to a new level.
With this, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev concluded his visit to Khorezm and departed for Tashkent.
