To the press and media workers

Uzbekistan

Dear friends! I sincerely congratulate all the creative and technical workers of the country's print and online publications, television and radio channels, news and media services, publishing houses, and printing companies, dedicated journalists, and respected veterans of the field, on this professional holiday.

To the press and media workers
I want to reaffirm that I see you, journalists who love their homeland, possess deep knowledge, and possess great potential, as my close friends and like-minded colleagues.

This wonderful holiday has special significance for us this year – it is taking place as we celebrate the 120th anniversary of the founding of the newspaper "Taraqqii" ("Progress") by our Jadid ancestors, which marked the beginning of the national press, and the 100th anniversary of the country's first experimental radio broadcast.

Ten years ago, based on the principles of democracy, openness, and transparency, and prioritizing the idea of "In the name of human honor and dignity, in the name of human happiness!", we began building a New Uzbekistan. And in this short period, thanks to the dedicated and glorious work of our multinational people, we have achieved tremendous success.

In particular, noteworthy are the ongoing efforts to ensure freedom of speech in society, support the media, increase the transparency of government agencies, digitalize the information sphere, and create a modern media space.

As a result of the creation of a solid legal foundation and the provision of benefits and preferences, the material and technical base of the sector has been strengthened, and the share of the private sector is growing every year. Today, it accounts for 67 percent of all media outlets, of which there are now approximately 2,700 in the country, over 90 percent of publishing entities, and 83 percent of printing enterprises. This year, publishing house production capacity doubled compared to last year, with approximately 15,000 titles published in over 60 million copies.

These figures demonstrate the expanding scope of efforts to liberalize the information sphere, enhance the reading culture, support media activities, and expand the information services market in the country.

Currently, along with the sharp increase in information flow, deepfake technologies have become widespread, leading to a particular focus on the reliability of sources. To this end, a modern educational system has been established in a short period of time through various media projects in the field, reaching 10,000 young people.

Dear media professionals!

We view free, responsible, and truly people's journalism as a necessary condition for the development of society and the state. New measures will be adopted to further expand opportunities for effective media workers, strengthen the protection of their rights and interests, enhance professional skills and qualifications, and, in particular, to address social protection, labor incentives, health promotion, and improving living conditions.

I believe, therefore, it is crucial to improve the activities of the Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan, enhance its status, and enhance its participation in the reform process. Indeed, our rapidly changing times pose new and important challenges for this public association. Today, it is imperative to pay serious attention to protecting the rights and interests of journalists, providing them with legal and information technology assistance, comprehensive support, and professional solidarity.

In this regard, it is crucial to continue organizing Media Week events, which for the first time took place over three months across the country, involving over 12,000 journalists, including young journalists.

As the country's leader, I am always ready to provide the necessary assistance and support to the national media, so that they, while serving as a strong bridge between the state and society, simultaneously become a powerful spiritual force that will further unite our people around national interests.

Dear journalists!

I take this opportunity to sincerely congratulate all those who have been awarded high state awards on the occasion of Press and Mass Media Day.

Once again, I congratulate you all on your professional holiday and wish you good health, happiness, prosperity, and continued success in your endeavors.

May your pen always be sharp, your words truthful and effective, and your creativity fruitful!

Shavkat Mirziyoyev,

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan
