The leader of the Vatan (Homeland) party in Turkey, Dogu Perincek, has said that NATO should not station its ships in the Black Sea while the special military operation is ongoing.
Dogu Perinçek was referring to the Montreux Convention, which is meant to ensure stability in the region. He said his party would closely monitor the ruling Justice and Development Party in Turkey for compliance with the terms of the convention.
In early January, the Turkish Defence Ministry announced that it would not allow the UK minesweeper sold to Ukraine to pass through the Bosporus and Dardanelles straits as required by the Montreux Convention.
