Turkish lira hits fresh record low against the U.S. dollar
The Turkish lira has reached a record low. The exchange rate reached 30 lira per dollar for the first time, according to trade data.

Exchange trading on Thursday started at 29.95 lira per dollar, but it has now risen to 30.004. This is a kind of psychological boundary for the public and businesses in Turkey.

This figure is not final, as there are still six hours left until the close of trading. By the end of the exchange day, the lira may again strengthen below the level of 30 lira per dollar, but local experts do not give specific forecasts.

At the moment, the euro is sold at 33.08 lira. The exchange rate against the ruble is 0.33.

The sharp fall of the Turkish currency began after the presidential and parliamentary elections in May 2023, as well as the Central Bank's decision to raise the discount rate. The rate rose from 8.5 per cent in June last year to 42.5 per cent in December. It is possible that it will continue to rise.
