Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak have signed an agreement on security guarantees that will be in force until Ukraine joins NATO.
Reportedly, according to the declaration adopted by the G7 countries at the NATO summit in Vilnius, each of the member states promised to provide security guarantees to Ukraine, and the UK was the first among them to sign the relevant agreement.
The agreement, which British officials called "historic", stipulates that the UK will provide Kiev with "rapid and continuous" defence support in the event of a new attack on Ukraine.
In addition, the agreement formalises UK support to Ukraine, including intelligence sharing, cyber security and defence industry cooperation, as well as training of medical and military personnel.
Earlier, the UK announced that it would provide Ukraine with military aid worth 2.5bn pounds in the 2024 financial year. According to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, the package includes additional air defence equipment, additional anti-tank weapons, additional long-range missiles and thousands of rounds of ammunition.
